The goal was to create a practical, stylish porch extension that provided extra storage for wet shoes and outdoor gear while maintaining uninterrupted views of the sea.

Our client wanted a seamless extension that blended with their existing home while improving the flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. They needed a practical area for removing and storing wet clothing, as well as a welcoming entrance that made the most of their stunning sea views.

Challenges: Balancing Functionality and Design
Maximising Storage Without Cluttering the Space: The porch extension had to be spacious and well-organised, offering dedicated storage for outdoor gear while keeping the entrance open and inviting.
Preserving Sea Views: One of the biggest challenges was designing the structure in a way that didn’t obstruct the natural coastal views.
Choosing Durable, Weather-Resistant Materials: Given the coastal location, we needed to select materials that could withstand moisture, salt air, and changing weather conditions.
Bringing the Porch Extension to Life
After carefully planning the design, our team got to work on bringing the porch extension to life.
To maintain clear sightlines to the sea while ensuring the space felt open and airy, we incorporated sturdy oak pillars at the front and kept the side walls low, allowing for an uninterrupted view of the coastline.
Storage was a key consideration, so we designed a built-in bench with under-seat storage, providing a practical solution for keeping wet shoes and outdoor gear organised and out of the way.
To make the space even more functional, we added wall-mounted hooks for hanging wetsuits and towels, ensuring they could dry efficiently while remaining easily accessible.
Given the coastal environment, durability was essential. We selected weather-resistant materials, finishing the flooring with non-slip textured tiles that provide extra grip, even when wet. To ensure proper drainage, we incorporated subtle channels along the edges, allowing water to flow away efficiently and keeping the area safe and dry throughout the year.
