In 2025, we added a new member to the Wickins & Associates team — Larry, our tipper lorry.
While it might not be the most glamorous purchase, it was a very deliberate investment, made to improve how we run our projects and to offer better value and flexibility for our clients.
Reducing the Need for Skips
Many of the properties we work on — particularly period and character homes — have limited driveway space. Large skips can be intrusive, unsightly, and often impractical, especially where access is tight or space is shared.
By investing in our own tipper lorry, we’re able to remove waste as work progresses, without the need for a skip sitting on site for extended periods. This helps keep projects tidier, reduces disruption, and avoids unnecessary clutter around clients’ homes.
A More Cost-Effective Approach to Waste Disposal
Skip hire costs have risen significantly in recent years and can now form a surprisingly large part of a project’s overall cost.
Our in-house waste disposal service allows us to offer a more competitive alternative to traditional skip hire. In many cases, using our tipper lorry works out cheaper than hiring a skip, particularly on projects where waste is generated gradually rather than all at once.
Responsible Disposal and Recycling
Alongside the purchase of Larry, we have invested in a waste carrier licence, enabling us to manage waste disposal properly and responsibly.
Materials are sorted and disposed of correctly, with recycling prioritised wherever possible. This ensures compliance with regulations, reduces unnecessary landfill use, and gives our clients confidence that waste from their project is being handled correctly.
Supporting Projects Beyond Our Own Sites
Having our own tipper lorry also allows us to support projects beyond our own renovation work.
We can now:
- Provide waste removal for external projects
- Source and transport bulk materials
- Offer more competitive pricing by managing logistics in-house
This added capability gives us greater flexibility and helps keep costs down, without relying on third-party availability.
